Teagan of Tomorrow by Jaime Lee Mann

Teagan of Tomorrow (Legend of Rhyme, #3)Teagan of Tomorrow by Jaime Lee Mann

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My son (11) finished up this book with a huge smile on his face. He spent the next two days talking about the series and the characters, how much he enjoyed reading about their adventure, and how much he wanted another book like this one. The writing is done quite well for all ages and levels of readers to be able to enjoy the adventures, from the young of age to the young at heart. I was pleasantly surprised that he showed so much interest in the books. There is no questionable content for younger readers. My son’s only request is for this book to be added to the school’s accelerated reader program. We received an ARC through the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Into Coraira by Jaime Lee Mann

Into Coraira (Legend of Rhyme #2)Into Coraira by Jaime Lee Mann

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed by my son (11): “This was a fun book to read. I liked the animals and the adventure. I didn’t find it too hard. It was a bit on the easy side to read. I really think kids my age and a little older would enjoy reading this book. I liked the first book too.” Granted he’s not all that talkative when it comes to his book reviews but he did have all positive things to say. He didn’t feel it was an amazing book, but he did enjoy reading it enough not to be distracted by electronics. It’s a clean, well-written, book without complicated relationships or word choices. Overall, it’s a solid choice for all ages. We received an ARC through the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an adorable book great for reading to younger readers. My son (11) says that the book is very colorful and he likes the how the drawings help tell the story. We agree that it is a fun book to read for a wide range of ages and reading levels. He especially likes that the characters are dragons. I like that it is a clean safe story with a theme. Every Little Thing: A Flat Vernacular Coloring Book by Payton Cosell

Every Little Thing: A Flat Vernacular Coloring BookEvery Little Thing: A Flat Vernacular Coloring Book by Payton Cosell Turner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I saw the chance to review an adult aimed coloring book I took the opportunity. I like that it has hand drawn images as opposed to something computer generated. If I wanted computer generated pages I could print them out myself. I like that it isn’t entirely images to color in, that there’s some white space so the colored images pop out more. I love that you can remove the cover and color in the inner (now the outer?) cover so it’s entirely your color scheme. I love that there’s no words to distract you. I love that it’s unique and admittedly odd in some respect on certain pages. That adds to the uniqueness of the book. It also lends to the title of being or containing every little thing. Overall I enjoyed flipping through the pages and can’t wait to get a set of colored pencils, although I might steal a few from my son’s art drawer. Also, even though this is aimed at adults, my son (11) says he would much prefer to color these pages over the ones he has to color at school. Chickadees, Bumbelbeez, Pussy-Willow Trees and Two-And-A-Half is an adorable book great for pre-readers and readers alike. The encouragement to fuel your imagination and explore your world is gentle and filled with wonderful illustrations. My son (11) remarked more than once on the illustrations. He said it’s like a chapter book with bigger better pictures. We enjoyed the story, laughing together and feeling very good about the time spent together. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion, but seeing my son look so happy may have.

The Big Pig Stampede by Bob Hartman

The Big Pig Stampede (Goat Boy Chronicles)The Big Pig Stampede by Bob Hartman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My son (11) enjoyed reading this book while on a long drive. He says it is easy to read and has some funny parts. It must since he laughed out loud a few times. He wanted to get more books like this and share them with his friends at school. I love any book that gets him to enjoy reading and drives him to share the enjoyment of reading a book. The book is well written and aimed for children. I’m fairly sure it’s for elementary to middle school aged readers. My son said it wasn’t difficult but then he reads at a 9th grade level. I’d still like to see this one in our local school library as well as our local public library. I received an ARC through Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for our honest review. Top Secret Files: Pirates and Buried Treasure: Secrets, Strange Tales, and Hidden Facts about Pirates by Stephanie Bearce

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My son (11) prefers non-fiction for his reads so it wasn’t difficult to get him to read this one. He read it during a car trip while I listened to an audiobook, or at least tried to. He loved telling me about the new things he learned while reading this book then asked if he could take it to school. Of course I obliged his request. Seeing him happy with a book in hand is all I needed. I looked through the book briefly and liked the layout and how everything is presented. This would make a great book for a child’s library, or an adult who likes an easier way to learn about pirates. I can see this being a popular book in a school library as well. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger by Jon Scieszka

Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger (Frank Einstein, #2)Frank Einstein and the Electro-Finger by Jon Scieszka

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent book for those youngsters who have a budding interest in all things science. My son (10) and I sat down together for hours reading this book and talking about tons of facts. He loves science and math but usually sticks with non-fiction books on the subjects. This book he said was funny and full of all sorts of things he wanted to learn more about. He was a touch reluctant letting it go but he says he wants lots of other kids to be able to read about science and enjoy it, so off the book goes to our library. I received an ARC through a GoodReads Giveaway. This has no influence on my opinions or reviews.

Easter Stories and PrayersEaster Stories and Prayers by Kathleen Long Bostrom

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Adorably cute book for the very young. Short and colorful without leaving out anything vital. I showed the book to a young friend and we ended up sitting down for over an hour. She really enjoyed the book and wanted to take it home with her. While not in depth the book covers the important aspects and plants those much needed seeds in the young. I can easily recommend this for anyone who deals with the young. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review through Tyndale Blog Network. This in no way influenced my opinion.

The Three Thorns (The Brotherhood and The Shield #1) by Michael Gibney

The Three Thorns (The Brotherhood and The Shield #1)The Three Thorns by Michael Gibney

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gibney has written an exciting fantasy adventure sure to keep younger readers turning pages and talking about their newest favorite book, with clever wording and colorful descriptions to keep easily distracted minds focused on the story. My son (10) and I enjoyed reading passages out loud to each other. More than once I caught him smiling as he read and not once did he put the book down on our trip. He says he likes the creativity in the story and wants to read more. We hope to eventually get a copy for our local library. We received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
