The Book Reviewer Yellow Pages

Welcome to my tiny corner of the world. Here you will find brief reviews, my opinions, on books I read. You will also find interviews with authors to gain insight into the mind behind the works. Enjoy your time here and hopefully you’ll find a new treasure.
I get a bit of help reading and reviewing certain books. Who best to tell you if a book geared towards children is actually interesting to a child’s mind, but a child? I have two older children and one younger child who are also avid readers and enjoy offering their opinions.
At times I’ll receive a request to review a book I’m not particularly fond of due to my own moods or preferences and the sort of genre my book loving friends adore. At those times, unless the submitting individual requests otherwise, the book is actually read by someone other than myself. I then discuss with them what they liked and didn’t like about the book, compose the review (sometimes in my own words) and post it. I will strive to always make mention in the review who read it.

Where do I get these books? A variety of places including publishers, authors, publicists, Goodreads and NetGalley. I am never compensated in any way in return for an honest review. These are my opinions freely given. In accordance with FCC guidelines: Every post should include a line stating I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review, or that I own the book, but being human I sometimes forget to include that line with the review.
Every review is my intellectual property. As the writer of this blog I herby state that my reviews are not to be copied or shared unless you have my express permission.

If you have a book you would like me to review, feel free to send one. I can promise I will consider reading your book and if I accept it, I can promise it will be read and reviewed. I cannot, however, promise the review will be favorable or provide a set timeline.

If you would like a review and would be willing to donate a physical copy of your book for our local library please send your book to the address above. Physical copies are highly appreciated as budgets are very limited and there is always a large population of patrons eagerly awaiting that next great book. I can promote your book within the library with bookmarks and other small items. Our patrons LOVE bookmarks.

Why donate to a library? If my word isn’t enough that it’s important take a fellow author’s word for it. Michael Ransom, Author of The Ripper Gene: A Novel, during an interview had this to say…

  • Reviews are important, but what about public libraries?

“They’re similarly important.  I recently ran a book giveaway and was impressed by how many people were going to get their copy of The Ripper Gene through a library if they didn’t win.  The libraries have to purchase their copies, so if you’re book is in high demand, it generates sales and the revenue necessary to sustain future books.  More importantly, having your book in libraries helps simply by amplifying word-of-mouth… which is that often-cited, poorly understood phenomenon that seems vital to almost all the successes in this industry today.”

I do not accept payment or any sort of compensation beyond the free copy of the book to be reviewed. At times a book might be part of a series. In that case I will accept (and prefer) copies of the previous books in the series in order to better understand and enjoy the current book.

If you have concerns about having your book reviewed here please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m not going to bite, I promise.

  5. I’m author of children’s book, The Oregon Kids: The Big Catch. Would you like to review it? In “The Oregon Kids: The Big Catch,” the value of being selfless and giving to others is exemplified. Billy and Autumn are brother and sister. At the beginning of the story, Billy is selfish and prideful. He sees his sister as a bother and a burden. All that concerns him is fishing and catching the biggest fish. At the end, however, Billy shows compassion for his sister, Autumn, allowing her to catch the biggest fish.

    About the book:
Nelleke Reitsma is one of the world’s top lutenists and guitar players. She is very good because she has had 350 years to practice.

Sinfonia: First Notes on the Lute records her life, beginning with her entrance into the world of the undying through friendship with Izaak, a mysterious young man who only comes out at night; and, eventually, her crossing over into that world. Leaving her native Netherlands for England, she finds herself embroiled in a fight to save the vampire community of London from destruction. She encounters Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth, and, using her connections to government and the theater, uncovers the last followers of an ancient religion that possesses power capable of destroying Nelleke and the coven of vampires to which she belongs. Rosa Hirsch barely adjusts to being a bride before she is widowed. She gives up her citizenship to accompany her mother-in-law to her home country. Can Rosa find acceptance among strangers who hate her belligerent nation?

  19. HI, My name is Dale Groutage
I just published A New YA Fantasy: The Kopaz Series™
    by Wyoming author, Dale Groutage

I am interested in getting them reviewed. Here is a short overview. When war breaks out among the gods, the only hope that goodness might prevail depends on the love and bravery of two seventeen-year-old humans struggling to overcome their humble beginnings. Until recently, Danny and Jeannie were ordinary kids dreaming of an escape from the impoverished Wyoming coal camp they call home. Part romance, part fantasy, the four books of The Kopaz Series™: Jeannie’s Golden Key; Secrets of the Sun; Young Gods of Kopaz, and War of the Gods offer a rousing young adult adventure where the universe itself hinges on human love and bravery. But Danny and Jeannie have to act fast: when the gods wage war, the very sky burns.

All four books are available on Amazon. My Amazon Author Central Page is: http://www.amazon.com/Dale-Groutage/e/B00IZ2TB1O/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0

If you only have a digital copy that’s fine, just realize it will take considerably longer to read and review. My apologies for this but I’m just not able to replace my reader at this time.
