Heathens and Liars of Lickskillet County: A Novel by Derek Berry
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book took a bit of effort to stick with through the first half. That’s not to say it’s badly written, in fact I feel that the book is quite well written. For me the first half felt jerky and lacked that smooth flow that makes the read enjoyable. About half-way through, maybe a touch further, the story and characters started to feel more like they were part of a story with a solid plot. The style makes it feel a bit disjointed to me although I suspect this won’t be an issue for many readers. It’s more of a personal preference thing than any fault of the author. The topics covered, while vast, each receive proper attention and help drive the overall story. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion, which is my own and may or may not reflect your own.
