The King's BloodThe King’s Blood by S.E. Zbasnik
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I have very mixed feelings about this book. On one hand it is fairly well written with interesting characters. It has an intriguing plot with good flow, mostly. On the other hand I was pulled out of the enjoyment of the read with the phrasing used by the characters. When I read fantasy I don’t want to hear current slang or jokes or anything that doesn’t fit with the setting. I nearly stopped reading in the first chapter with “Winter’s Coming” and “I was right, I knew it had to be Ms. Dragon in the Alchemical Lab with the Chamber Pot!” It gets worse in the next chapters. There’s potential in the book and I’m sure there will be readers who absolutely love it. Maybe I’m just old school when it comes to fantasy? At any rate, I didn’t enjoy this one much at all and I don’t think those who enjoy GRRM, Anthony, MJ Sullivan, Sanderson, or Butcher will enjoy this one. I received an ARC through the author in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

Book loving single mother to a wonderful special needs child who fills my life with adventures, excitement, love and innocence.

  1. Thank you for the review. I had been trying to make up my mind if I wanted to invest in this book. I’m the same way, leave my fantasy fantasy, not cheapened by trying to be cute or upbeat. It doesn’t belong in fantasy.

    1. I’m pleased I could help with that decision. Granted not everyone will agree with my opinions but that’s just a matter of taste. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a few kind words.
