My rating: 3 of 5 stars
The writing is very well crafted, the story is very well told, the characters are all life-like. Feel that ‘but’ coming? Well, it’s all good if you love your stories a touch on the depressing side without any distractions and you love to read about what is likely a large slice of the population and all their issues. You’d likely love it so much you’d give it 5 stars. If you prefer your stories with equal amounts of joy and tears, something exciting or at least distracting or humorous, you’ll likely give it 2 or 3 stars (or not finish it at all). Me, well, I liked the writing a lot. I just wish it had something besides the sadness and depressing stories of a family. Something I could sink my teeth into. It’s not a bad book by any means, it’s just not something I can get excited about. Hence, 3 stars. I received an ARC through Hachette Book Group in exchange for an honest review.
