Magna Carta Celebrates 800 Years of Freedom on June 15

Make a difference. It’s what we all want to do. Leave a mark, be remembered, change the future.

The delightful new children’s book, Rupert’s Parchment: Story of Magna Carta by award winning author and historical preservationist Eileen Cameron provides an authentic experience for children to share in the signing of Magna Carta through the eyes of a child who lived during the Middle Ages.

Midwest Book Review says, “… presentation adds life, color and personality to events, emphasizing to a young audience why the historic Magna Carta signing was so important … Add a concluding discussion of principles, casts of characters, a glossary, and an overview of the basic principles of Magna Carta and its amendments and you have a unique treatment that grades 3-6 will relish.”

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well written fictional account of one boy’s experience when the Magna Carta was signed. The prose is flowing and easy to read and understand. I love the colorful art on each page. The story is short with just a bit on each page making it a good choice for finicky readers and younger budding readers. I read this out loud with my son (10) who says it’s a good interesting story and one he would give two thumbs up. My only fuss is in the back with the question/answer section about why the Magna Carta is important to Americans. This is just my fuss since I studied American History. I would suggest teaching our children the facts about our History. Anyway, overall the book is wonderful and we really enjoyed our read. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.
