Heirs of the Demon King: Uprising by Sarah Cawkwell

There are some good bits to this book earning it enough to have three stars, but there is still work to be done before it can come close to a fourth star. The writing is ok. I found few errors and no gross mistakes with the actual writing. Some of the elements of the magic felt pulled from various sources or ideas and blended together without a set of standards. The characters need fleshing out as they feel one dimensional and have actions and dialogue that feels forced or flat. The plot is a rather good one but the execution needs work. The pacing is what really gets to me. The first half of the book is terribly slow while the second half is a great pace with excitement and what you would expect from a fantasy read. I still believe this author has potential and is worthy of reading what she publishes next so keep a watch for her next book.
