The Obsidian Heart by Mark T. Barnes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
With the world building out of the way, Barnes gets right into the plot with well fleshed out characters and beautiful descriptions of the world around them. This second book is enjoyable to read and very well written. The main characters face insurmountable odds, heart wrenching decisions and show such depth and development. The supporting characters are no small bit as they affect the world around them and push boundaries. The political intrigue is weaved skillfully within the plot threads. This isn’t a book for a lazy afternoon read. It’s detailed, written intelligently, with a whole new world and magical system. I’d recommend this series to those who enjoy a more complicated fantasy read.
