A mixed bag here with an enchanting tale and unique plot but it felt like the author was trying too hard. The characters were difficult to relate to or bond with as we are told nearly every moment of each day and are frequently reminded of the tragic points in Lyra’s past (I lost count how many times the divorce was mentioned) only to suddenly have her swooning over Cullen. It felt like every detail had to be described which took away from the story. However, I loved the world building and the variety of creatures.
